A Breif History of
Love is the first release from the London electro-rock duo The Big
Pink comprised of Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell. The album will hit
you hard and you’ll either love it or come away with mixed feelings.
The group carries a unique sound that many American ears might not be
accustomed to. I tried describing the sound and came up with “soft
mellow dramatic new age electronic punk rock,” which I later found out
is actually more of a combination of what’s called shoegaze and
techno. Sidenote: Shoegaze was a subgenre of alternative rock that
emerged from the UK in the late 80s. There was another aspect to the
sound that I also couldn’t wrap my head around until I heard that they
self produced the album themselves, which is that handcrafted feel
that I was sensing. Hits like “Dominos” and “Velvet” we surely give
the album some mainstream exposure. The album is good, maybe not
great, but I can tell you that I’m already excited for the follow-up
album. The Big Pink is currently touring now and you can catch them at
several major festivals across the U.S. as well as smaller venues
throughout the country.
